1. What’s going on Shawn Archer? Please introduce yourself to The Grynd Report and tell us where you’re from.
First I want to say thank you for the interview and letting me use your platform. But I go by the name Shawn Archer and I am a hip hop artist from Philadelphia signed with the hottest independent label out here S.K.E. records.
2. Who or what was your inspiration to become a music artist?
Well for me music was always a part of my life whether it was my mom playing it throughout the house when she was cooking, cleaning etc. and also I wrote poetry I used it as a form of expression so when I heard my first rap song I knew right then and there without a doubt that it was destined for me to do it.
3. Currently, what single are you pushing & where can we find it?
Right now my lead single is called “No Lames Allowed” and it is off my upcoming project “Swag And 808’s” which will be released soon, it is a very high energy record definitely one of those jawns that turns the club up(Laughs) I been getting a lot of great feedback so you can get the record off itunes, google play or anywhere you can purchase music or if you just want to listen go to youtube, spotify or just google Shawn Archer No lames allowed it will pop up because we got it everywhere(Laughs).
4. What’s the music scene like for indie artists in Philly?
Philly is a tough city overall so the same things apply with the hip hop scene, if you not talented then you will know it we are a tough crowd to please but I think that what keeps us on point, that’s why the people that you do know of that made it in the game are extremely talented, of course there are some things that can be better but I’m not the type to complain I’m all about change so I think we as in S.K.E. records are going to be the ones to really put Philly where it belongs and mentioned with the other major cities.
5. When you step in the studio, what are some things you must have on deck?
All I need is me, my music and the engineer. I don’t need to do no rituals, drugs or have a hundred people in the studio hyping me up all I need is one mic Nas voice (Laughs).
6. What can we find you doing when you’re not creating new music?
Outside of music I have a lot of things going on. We have a film company “VisionBoard Films” so all the music videos you see from S.K.E. records we write the treatment shoot and edit ourselves. We working on a web series called “Trust No One” that I’m acting in as well you will get a chance to see that soon. We have our own energy drink “Konquer Energy” and a clothing line “Know and Konquer” and a few books in the works. So I have my hands in a lot of things and everything we do is all organic and a part of our lifestyle so it may seem like a lot but when you do what you love it never feels like work.
7. What’s your definition of GRYND?
To me to GRYND is to take your dreams and make them a reality. I think that we all have something special about us and once you realize what that thing is you will work countless hours and do whatever it takes to reach your goals. And the beauty of it is that you will love every second of it, you will be inspired to keep pushing each and every day and to me that is what the GRYND is all about.
