1. What’s going on? Please introduce yourself to THE Grynd Report and tell us where you’re from.
What up doe! Im ZOD Im a hip hop artist and producer originally from Flint, MI been in Atlanta on the Southside for the last 6yrs
2. When did you start rapping and who or what inspired you?
I started rapping as a kid just having fun with it…inspired by other music…artist like Jay-Z…Wu Tang and I probably had about the whole No Limit Lineup..lol..but just the whole culture in general. After getting some positive responses started hitting the studio and taking a more serious approach, maybe in the late teens right after high school. Later I just kind of realized I think the love of music just runs in the family. My mother (RIP use to sing and play the piano in like 3 different choires at her church..including helping the mens choire). Plus my uncles (6) and mom used to play live music in my grandma’s basement too growing up. I remember wanting to be a part of that. So I was around music all the time.
3. With so many independent artists out here what makes you different & sets you apart?
My best answer for that is probably because I just do me. I feel like since I’m not trying to follow certain trends or be like no-one else, what you get is a different product and that product is me.
4. Tell us something you enjoy doing [besides music] that most people don’t know.
I dont know…Im a creative person so I like to create shit. I got my hands in a lot of things. Websites, clothing…I be on the XBOX ONE killin. A lot of people know im nice on the sticks tho..But aside from that I would say I like to cook from time to time and probably gettin on the hoop court been a while tho.
5. Currently, what project or single are you working on or pushing & where can we find it?
Well the single I’ve been pushing is Nigga Like Me it can be found online at the go to online spots for distribution…Itunes, Google Play, Amazon, Bandcamp etc. DJ’s feel free to get it off my site tho! http://zodisgood.com also working on a full project as well as pushing a project on the Pay Homage imprint by Rik Rude called the Wizard of Ounces check that out single out too at http://rikrude.bandcamp.com
6. What’s been the most memorable moment so far in your music career?
Couple things that stick out…maybe small to some but…Me and the crew met some members from Wu Tang (huge fan) back in the day after a show. We went to the back of the arena and waited for em. We had just went to the studio earlier that day. But anyway they pulled up in a van and we had em pop the tape in. They listened then started bumper harder and harder..Turned that shit up and everybody in the Van was like Yoooooo! this you ?!?! This shit is DOOOOPE!! bystanders going crazy too! They listened some more and asked for our number or card or something. We aint have shit to write on. I think the homie wrote the number down on a raggedy ass receipt and gave it to Capadonna Lol…we didnt hear from them but that paper probably disintegrated in his pocket it was so raggedy lol. That gave us a lot of confidence and fuel to keep pushin tho.
Another thing was just hearing a stranger say they were my number 1 fan…felt good and was the first time I heard that. I was doing a show in Pontiac and the promoter kept calling me like “Please tell me you’re coming cause these chicks keep harassing me asking me are you gonna be here talking about they’re your number 1 fans.” After I performed I met them and it was all love and they told me this to my face too. Felt good…looking to meet a lot more people that feel the same..lol
7. What are your goals musically for 2016?
Continually build and finish this project. Also want to make some strides into becoming an A&R for a major.
8. What’s your definition of GRYND?
My definition would be a relentless pursuit of a goal!
9. Tell everyone where they can find you? [Websites, Social media, Booking info etc]
The website is http://zodisgood.com you can also find me on all social media @zodisgood
10. What words would you like to leave us with? Any Shout Outs?
I appreciate the opportunities that you and a few other folks provide for independent artists. You got alot of people who are vultures just trying to get paid of the hunger. But you can tell some people actually want to see you succeed. #SALUTE. Give a S/O to the homies I came up with that still doing it. And everybody putting positive vibes in the air. Fuck wit ya boy and remember ZOD is GOOD #PAYHOMAGE
