Dear Joey Badass;
Sorry for taking so long to write about your latest project, my schedule just been super crazy and besides I had more time to soak up your vibes. Now let me talk about you and then I will go into ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$.
Researching your foundation, I discovered your Government, Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott. You see Joey, I never heard about you before May 2017. Honestly I am kind of new to arena of Hip-hop, thanks to Bronx online radio outlet Heroes Headquarters-HHPOV. So imagine my surprise to read about your birthplace of Brooklyn and the fact that you and I share Jamaican roots. I was embarrassed and Publicist Bobby Shay laughed at my lacking.
22 years young with an old soul who is determined to reclaim what is our rights to live at peace in filthy America; is pretty much my summary of you Joey. Also I read somewhere you studied theater and you had an acting role in Mr. Robot- aired on USA network. Joey, I can only picture your West Indian upbringing in the rich cultural pot of Flatbush Brooklyn. I am excited that you cut from this cloth, a great product from the hood. Who said no good men comes from the inner-city?
‘Rockabye Baby’ I thought, with my perverted mind this was a sensual song. To my surprise, the composition is that of Bob Marley with a Pop/Rock feel. Remember I never listened to you prior, if I had, then I would have known what to expect.
The social-political and ancestral lyrics echoed when I listened to ‘Land of The Free’. 3 K’ 2 A’s in Amerikkka” immediately I envisioned the Ku Klux Klan and the 2 A’s meaning African American. White supremacy has gotten a surge under the new administration in America, and for those who are not WOKE, Joey’s album is here to ‘Ring the Alarm’!
One of the most controversial and yet talented Jamaican Reggae singer, Chronixx, collaborates on this project. Take a listen to his contribution on the track ‘Babylon’.
Oh Joey, what a bitter sweet way to close this letter. I honestly was stuck since May and was thinking how I should conclude with a strong sense of urgency. You know, to have readers follow you on social media and purchase your project and roll out to your shows. But instead I let it sit for 8 weeks and God works in a mysterious way. Now I am able to end with a sentimental fact. Folks, about 10 days before Prodigy died, Joey invited Prodigy to perform on his set at Hot 97 Summer Jam annual event. So Joey, thank you for having nothing but LOVE! It takes realness and honor to pay homage and respect to Mobb Deep.
Sincerely Yours;
Tilsa Wright from Brooklyn.
