Bigg Von of We Got Hits Productions Chops It Up About The Track ” Real People ” with Ice Cube feat Common

With the release of Barber Shop 3: The Next Cut coming soon, we decided to sit down with Bigg Von of We Got Hit Productions, who produced the track “ Real People “ (along with Tone Mason, Mark McKay),with Ice Cube feat Common for the soundtrack. We were able to find out more behind the scenes information on how this track came about. He also spoke about upcoming and previous projects that We Got Hits Productions has been a part of. Ice Cube and Common demonstrate how to let bygones be bygones in the Real People track, setting their differences aside and joining forces. For those that don’t know or forgot, Ice Cube and Common once did not see eye to eye on a few occasions. This track is the lead single for Barber Shop 3: The Next Cut.

So where are you from? I was raised in Detroit Michigan. I’ve been living in Atlanta since 2009, though travel across the country for work.
How long have you been involved with entertainment management? I started off as an artist. I was rapping, producing and writing for myself before I started managing other acts. I’ve been managing both artists and producers since the early 2000’s. I’ve always had a hand in hip hop, especially in the Chicago Scene. It’s all about building great vibes and meaningful relationships. My company We Got Hits Productions has placements on a lot of big projects out right now.
So who all is involved with the track “Real People” with Ice Cube and Common? Well as you already know my team was involved with the production of the track, however we also wrote the song as well. Dion Primo wrote the hook and I changed a few things around it while Tone Mason and Mark McKay produced the track.
How long have you been working with this team? Me and Dion Primo go back. I say we have been working together for 4 years already. Tone Mason and Mark McKay are a little newer. I started working with them this year but I can say it’s been a great relationship. We’ve done a lot of work in a small time frame. They definitely have a unique sound and I’m glad to have them as a part of my team. Always a great vibe in and out of the studio.
So how did you meet Cube? Man me and Cube go way back. (chuckles) . I met cube a long time ago back in Detroit. I was at WJLB FM 98 radio station radio station with an artist I use to work with named Tone Tone. Big shout out to him by the way. Tone Tone’s name is hot right now because of the track called “Gold Rolex” featuring Gucci Mane. Anyways, I was at the station and chopped it up with Cube. We instantly clicked. Since then we been pretty good friends. This was back when he was promoting his West Coast Connection album. Back around 2007.
How did you end up getting the placement for Real People, which is on the soundrack for Barbershop 3 of course? Like I said earlier, me and cube have been knowing each other for quite some time now. He always liked and respected what I did just like I respect what he does. One day we just so happened to link up during the set of Barber Shop 3: The Next Cut and we were able to chop it up then. I mentioned that I had some tracks that he needed to hear and that was that. When we were done producing the track for Real People, I had a great feeling about the record. I said to my team “This is the One”. The same vibe that we had in the studio carried on to my conversation with Ice Cube. He knew we had a hit. Like I said earlier, Primo and myself co-wrote the hook of the song. Next thing I knew Cube and Common where both on the track. What’s so crazy is that Common and Cube once had a beef. That’s another thing so great about this track. It depicted many of the internal and external struggles and conflicts we face in life every day. Whether it’s in Chicago where the movie is based or just the world in general. You have to stand up for what you believe in. It also shows that change can be a great thing if changing for the better.
How was it working on the movie set amongst the likes of other great entertainers, such as Common, Nicki Minaj, and Anthony Anderson just to name a few? It was a great vibe. Although I’ve been in the business for a while, I always have a great time whenever I’m involved. One thing I can say is that these guys put in work. Ice Cube plays roles other than himself on many of his films. He is a very intelligent man. He really gets into his roles. Once he learns his script and his character, the genius comes out. I had a really great time on the set of Ride Along. Always fun when you got Kev and Cube in the same building.
So what do you have coming up next? Myself and We Got Hits Productions have a lot of projects we are a part of this year. We had placements on Fetty Waps Album “Fetty Wap” that’s on its way to become certified double platinum. I want to give a big s/o to Big Soj. Also we have about 8 tracks on Ice Cubes next project. We have credits with Lil Wayne, Dej Loaf, T.I.P, 50Cent, Kevin Gates, Eminem, Scarface and many more. The list goes on.
